You sat down to “finally get your business finances together.”
Then you found:
27 uncategorized transactions.
A credit card that hasn’t been reconciled in four months
.
An IRS notice you still haven’t opened.
Three subscriptions you meant to cancel.
And a $1,200 payment you can’t remember whether you recorded.
So now instead of fixing anything...
you’re staring at the screen thinking:

Everything feels urgent when you don't know
which financial mistakes actually have consequences.
So you start with whatever feels easiest.
You rename categories.
Organize receipts.
Change the colors on your spreadsheet.
Cancel a $14 subscription.
Meanwhile?
That unopened tax notice is still sitting on the counter.
Girl.
Because not every financial problem deserves the same level of attention.
Some things are annoying.
Some things make your reports inaccurate.
And some things can cost you actual money if you keep ignoring them.
This is what I see all the time when women entrepreneurs finally decide:
"Okay. I'm getting my finances together."
They create one giant list:
- catch up bookkeeping
- organize receipts
- pay taxes
- cancel subscriptions
- fix payroll
- reconcile accounts
- update QuickBooks
- review expenses
- figure out why Stripe doesn't match
- deal with an old tax notice
And mentally?
Every single thing gets labeled:
URGENT.
That's exactly how you end up overwhelmed and doing none of it.
Your financial to-do list needs three categories:
That's it.
This is where I want your attention FIRST.
Think:
- IRS or state tax notices
- overdue tax filings
- payroll tax problems
- unpaid tax balances
- missed filing deadlines
- cash shortages that could affect payroll or essential bills
These aren't "I'll get around to it" problems.
They have consequences.
Let's say your list has:
A $29 software subscription you don't use.
$3,500 in uncategorized transactions.
A tax notice showing a $2,800 balance with a response deadline.
And a business credit card that hasn't been reconciled in three months.
Which one gets handled first?
Girl...
not the $29 subscription.
Because while you're celebrating saving $348 a year by canceling software...
you could be allowing interest, penalties, or a missed
response deadline to make the bigger problem worse.
Once the fires are handled...
now we fix accuracy.
This includes:
- unreconciled accounts
- missing transactions
- duplicate income
- uncategorized expenses
- personal and business transactions mixed together
- payment processor deposits that don't match your books
Why does this come next?
Because girl...
Let's say your books show:
Revenue:
$14,000
Expenses:
$6,000
Profit:
$8,000
You're feeling GOOD.
Maybe you're thinking:
"I can pay myself another $3,000."
But then you reconcile your accounts and discover:
$1,800 in expenses were missing.
$700 in processing fees weren't recorded.
Actual profit:
$5,500.
That $3,000 transfer looks a whole lot different now.
It changes the decisions you make.
That's why accuracy moves up the list.
This is where y'all get distracted.
Renaming every account in your chart of accounts?
Can probably wait.
Creating the world's prettiest receipt filing system?
Probably can wait.
Spending two hours deciding whether a $22 expense should
be called "Office Supplies" or "Administrative Expenses"?
GIRL.
Please move on.
Compliance.
Accuracy.
Cash.
Decision-making.
THAT'S the order I care about.
When something lands on your financial to-do list, ask:
Does ignoring this create a tax, legal, filing, or payroll
problem?
Does this make my financial numbers inaccurate or affect my cash?
Is this mostly organization, optimization, or something I simply prefer to look better?
And suddenly that giant terrifying list starts looking a whole lot more manageable.
You might have:
2 things that need attention now.
4 things that should be handled next.
And 11 things that can sit their a** right there until next Tuesday.
That's a VERY different problem.
Financial organization does NOT mean everything in your business has to be perfect.
You need the important things handled first.
Because I've seen women spend HOURS cleaning up little
things while the financial issue that could actually hurt them
keeps getting pushed to next week.
Don't do that.
Not the easiest.
Not the prettiest.
Not the one that gives you the quickest dopamine hit when you cross it off.
The one that protects your money and your business.
So if your financial to-do list currently has you bouncing between 14 different problems...
stop trying to fix everything at once.
Start there.
And if you're looking at your list thinking, "Okay...but I still
don't know which problem is actually the dangerous one?"
That's exactly where a Girl Let Me See Your Books strategy session makes sense.
We can look at what's happening, figure out what actually
deserves your attention, and give you an order to tackle it in.
Because girl...
